Odd Opera's Michelle Righetti has joined forces with Joel Dalton (from Tripping Hazard, The Good Ideas) in a new indie folk, whimsy-rock duo NOT FROM CONCENTRATE. They are recording their debut album together, so new songs will be posted as they become available. Better still, this dynamic duo can be seen the first Saturday of every month at Rawlicious on Bloor West The next show is at 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012. The best part? These one-hour shows are FREE!!!
"Warfare", a DanceWorks co-presentation created by ASM Dance, in collaboration with Odd Opera and Pandora Music was presented at the DanceMaker's Theatre in the Distillery District, Toronto June 24 & 25 2010. This video clip is from a section entitled "Ad | ICT | SHUN". Choreography by Jasmyn Fyffe. Music by Michelle Righetti, Laura-Beth Gray, Stephen Targett. Featured Soloist is dancer Kathy Lewis.
In her review of "Warfare", Art & Culture Maven called the music "inspired and expressive", saying that (the) "Musical accompaniment was inspired and expressive, including original compositions that I'd describe as melodic avant garde and odd instruments I couldn't place (something like a horn with strings that's played also as percussion?) Original pieces by ODD Opera and Pangea Sound Collective also use rhythmic whispers and operatic singing in a multi-layered web that was more than a simple backdrop to the dancers.
The various threads of dramaturgy and music come together in the talents of dancers who made the piece look effortless. Its multi-pronged approach works on all levels for performance I found quite absorbing."
